World Conference on Earthquake Engineering

The Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (ISET), established in 1962, is a founding member of the International Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE). The organization's membership includes diverse and influential figures, such as past presidents of the International Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE), Prof. Jai Krishna (1977-1980) and Prof. Sudhir K. Jain (2014-2018). The organization's legacy is further enriched by honorary members, including Profs. Jai Krishna, A. S. Arya, Sudhir K. Jain, and IAEE director Prof. Durgesh Rai.

ISET members are known for their strong advocacy of Seismic Risk Reduction. Notable figures in this regard include Profs. Jai Krishna, A. S. Arya, Shamsher Prakash, A.R. Chandrasekaran, H. K. Gupta, Sudhir K. Jain, V. H. Joshi, S. K. Thakkar, D. K. Paul, T. G. Sitharam & M. L. Sharma.

The organization has a successful track record of organizing national and international conferences. These include the 6th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering in 1977, the 17th Quadrennial National Symposium on Earthquake Engineering, and the 6th and 7th International Conference on Recent Advances in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering (ICRAGEEs).

ISET members have received international recognition and awards for their contributions. These include the Earthquake Legend award for Prof. Krishna, the UN Sasakawa award for Prof. Arya, and Padma Awards for Profs. Krishna, Arya, Gupta, and Jain.

Currently, ISET has over 2000 life members, 3000 active student members, and 13 local chapters. The organization enjoys the support of over 10,000 members from various sister societies.
